好来宝

• A transliteration from Mongolian which means a kind of folk opera popular in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. Originally folk singers did everything alone, like singing, play instruments, asking and answering questions to themselves, but now they perform in various forms such as vocal solo, antiphonal singing, ensemble, chorus, etc. usually accompanied by matouqin (a string instrument with a scroll carved like a horse's head) and sometimes in soliloquies. Also called 好力宝.
